Stats:
Weight: 21 lbs (80%)
Length: 28 inches (55%)
Clothes: 9 months (but barely!)
Milestones:
-Pincer grasp: This skill was motivated primarily by his
desire to get yogurt melts off his high chair tray and into his hungry little
mouth.
-Pulling up to stand: He does this mainly using our hands as
stabilization, but every now and then we see him pull to stand on coffee tables
and other furniture.
-Standing unassisted:
By unassisted, we mean without mom or dad helping him balance, but while
holding onto a piece of furniture to steady himself.
-Object permanence: One of Jonah’s new favorite toys is a
set of colorful stacking bowls and a small ball that rattles. To practice learning object permanence, Jake
will put the small ball under one of three bowls and then rearranges the bowls
while Jonah watches and then Jonah guesses where the ball is. He’s becoming really good at finding the
ball, which is just amazing to watch.
Mobility:
Jonah’s not quite crawling yet, but you can see on his face
how badly he wants to move. His central
means of locomotion these days is scooting in circles on his belly, kind of
like a dog chasing its tail.
For now,
we’re pretty content with a baby that stays (mostly) where we leave him.Brown bear, holding on for dear life. |
Food:
While we’re still doing mainly purees and mashed foods,
Jonah’s eating more and more table foods as well. During meal times I’ll give him small pieces
of whatever we’re eating (as long as it’s fairly healthy) and he gobbles it all
right up. Favorites at the moment are:
baked white fish, scrambled egg yolk with cheese, steamed apples and pears with
cinnamon and roasted veggies. Also, he
can pretty much eat his weight in those Gerber puff snacks. Which, as other parents know, is quite a feat
given how ridiculously light those things are!
We also finally found a sippy cup that he likes—the kind with a
straw. Who woulda guessed?

Sippy-cup success! |
Sleep:
Hallelujah! We’ve had
about a month of delightfully sound and regular sleep. Most nights Jonah sleeps
straight through, from 7:15pm-6:30/7:00am.
This, my friends, has been life changing. There’s nothing quite like a full night of
uninterrupted sleep to make everything a little brighter, a little sweeter and
a little easier. Although, as a friendly
reminder to not get too comfortable, Jonah just started (what we think is) his
8-month sleep regression. Last week naps
were shorter with a good deal of crying and last night we had the first extended
night waking in quite a while. We’ll see where this one takes us…
Favorite Activities:
Being tossed in the air by dad.
Playing peek-a-boo with mom.
Being outside.
Baths in his inflatable ducky tub.
Always a few good outtakes in the bunch. |
Yup. He makes a good pout. |
